Founded in 1574 by Sant Guru Ramdas, Golden temple at Amritsar is the holiest guradwara of Sikhs. It is also referred as Harmindar Sahib or Darbar Sahib. Guru Granth Sahib which is the holiest book of Sikhs is kept here and during the day time it present for the visitors to see whereas during the night time, the holy book goes for Sukhasan.
Visit to Harmindar Sahib is a matter of experience rather than description. Over 1 lakh people visit the temple on daily basis. There are four entrances to the temple signifying acceptances and plainness. The guradwara id surrounded by a lake which is fed by the river Ravi. There are three holy trees- Bers tree, signifying the Sikh saints.
There are many memorial plaques inside the temple that venerate the historical events, saints and martyrs of Sikhs.
