It is said that during the period of Mahabharata, Lord Krishna and Pandavas have worshiped in this temple. Also as per the records of the government, The Kalkaji temple is an ancient temple, however the oldest part of the temple is built not earlier than 1764 AD.

The temple is situated close to Bahai Lotus temple and ISKCON temple which is in the eastern part of Kailash, an area in New Delhi. Devotees come to this temple throughout the year but they prayers culminate during Navratri when they all gather and whole heartedly sing and offer to the Goddess.

It is said that Goddess Kalkaji having delighted by the prayers of Gods, she appeared on this place and has stayed ever since then, listening to the prayers of her devotees and granting them their wish. It is said that during the period of Mahabharata, Lord Krishna and Pandavas have worshiped in this temple. Also as per the records of the government, The Kalkaji temple is an ancient temple, however the oldest part of the temple is built not earlier than 1764 AD. Mata Snanam is the major ritual held over here in which the idol is bathed with milk and every day at 6 in the morning and 7.30 in the evening this ritual is repeated. The pujaris sing hymns and the complete area of the temple is lit with lights. Devotees come here to meditate as well.
