One of the hallowed temples in the city of Varanasi is Sankat Mochan Temple of Lord Hanuman. Banked by Assi river, the holy temple has a special significance among the Hindus. People from around the country visit this temple to relieve themselves from their sufferings, for which this temple is known in India. It is believed that Lord Hanuman protects their devotees from the malefic of planet Saturn. Built in early 1900s, this temple has a unique characteristic of Lord hanuman facing his Lord Rama, whom he selflessly worshiped.
Every year birthday of Hanuman is celebrated in a huge display from the devotees during which a special Shobha Yatra is carried out from Durgakund to Sankat Mochan temple.
A very distinctive sweet called “besan ladoo” is offered to Lord Hanuman, which devotees of Lord Maruti Nandan (Lord Hanuman is also known as Maruti Nandan) relish. It is believed that Sankat Mochan temple is built on the same place where Tulsidas had vision of Lord Hanuman.
Sankat Mochan Temple is popularly known as Monkey Temple because of 100s of Monkies residing there.
The temple situated near Banaras Hindu University, is approximately 7 Kms from Varanasi Railway Station.
