Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple at Ujjain is one of the twelve Jyotirlinga in India, the most sacred abode of Lord Shiva. Lord Shankar in Lingam form is said to be Swayambhu, deriving powers from within as against the other imageries and lingam that are endowed with mantra Shakti. One of the unique feature of the temple is that the idol of the Lord faces south and is also called as dakshinamurti. Inside the temple one can see the images of Ganesha, Parvathi and Karthikeya, installed in west, north and east respectively. The temple has five levels and one of them is underground. On the eve of Maha Shivratri, a huge fair is organized and people.
